Where did it really all Start?

You could say MikejoDesigns was established back in 1995, though it wasn’t on my mind at the time. It was mainly a lot of crying and wide-eyed wondering, but I’ll have to take my parent’s word, I was only a baby. There was a time in elementary school I signed my name on some outdoor furniture with black crayons, which I now count as my first mural. Maybe it was later in high school when I tore my ACL and realized Professional Soccer might not be the best career path so I dove into art. Or that time in college when I called up my parents one afternoon to say “I think I’m in the wrong major and I should be taking more art classes.” (This was in my second year studying civil engineering at the time… ) In the end, it doesn’t matter which “moment” it was because they all led to finding this passion for creating.

What’s the Inspiration behind the Art?

Nature and human connections have always been two constant sources of inspiration in my life. Growing up in a coastal town I’ve felt most comfortable at the beach or state parks. Whether getting barreled in a wave, or running around getting a little lost on the trails surrounding the area. Taking moments to pause and observe everything around those spaces gave me an appreciation for nature and the need for protecting it. These experiences not only grew my connection with nature but also the interconnectedness we share with each other. While I enjoy the effect my art has on those viewing it, being able to bring out the creative spark in someone else is just as important to me. Everyone has a unique perspective, and when we all share those pieces of ourselves it will inspire more positivity.
