The Surf Shanty Motel had its grand opening the summer of 2022. Previous known as the Bell Buoy Inn of Dewey Beach, this Van Dyke St. staple underwent a major over hull turning into the chic baja style motel it is today. Some of the finishing touches still needed were door numbers reminiscent of California lifeguard stands as well as an accent wall where vacationers could capture their fun stay in the town of Dewey Beach.

In addition to the motel The Surf Shanty operates a boutique rental and general store a few blocks down the road on Coastal Highway. The goal with this mural was to transform their existing “Rentals Here” signage with a friendly Welcome to Dewey Beach Mural that invites the beachgoers into the store for those last minute necessities before hitting the sand, as well as an opportunity for them to take a picture with the wall.
